How the NFT Community Donated 50 ETH for a Homelessness Assistance Program

How the NFT Community Rallied to Donate 50 ETH for a Homelessness Assistance Program

After nearly a decade of decline, homelessness is again on the rise in America, increasing two percent between 2019 and 2020. The nation has an estimated 580,466 people living on streets or in shelters, but its system of temporary shelters only has capacity for 354,000 (or roughly 60%) on any given night.

While some of the issues causing this spike, and the insufficient response, are systemic and may require new legislative approaches at local, state and federal levels of government, established charities help fill the gaps by providing essential resources, supplies and services to unsheltered populations.

Most if not all of these organizations need support from individual donors in whatever way they can give, whether that’s with credit cards, checks, or non-cash assets like stocks and cryptocurrencies.

The NFT Community Steps Up to Fight Homelessness

In 2021, NFT creators and platforms showed their commitment to generosity by donating millions of dollars worth of crypto donations.

One of the highlights from that breakout year of NFT charitable giving was a fundraiser launched in support of Blankets of Hope, a nonprofit founded to provide blankets to organizations that serve homeless populations.

The project, called Right-Click, Give!, recruited some of the best-known NFT projects and artists for an NFT charity auction with 100% of the proceeds going toward Blankets of Hope.

Participating projects included Doodles, World of Women, CyberKongz, Pudgy Penguins, Cool Cats, Deadfellaz, VeeFriends, and many others.

Thanks to the generosity of these projects and the enthusiasm of NFT collectors, Right-Click, Give! Raised 50 ETH (roughly $200,000 at the time of donation), which enabled the nonprofit to distribute 28,571 blankets to homeless individuals.

Help Alleviate the Conditions of Poverty and Homelessness

Crypto users have shown incredible generosity in supporting the most critical causes of our day. They have donated crypto worth hundreds of millions of dollars to fund support for foster care housing, free emergency medical services, refugee resettlement programs, and countless other areas of great need.

You can be a crypto hero and help support the ongoing fight for universal human rights by making a charitable donation to one of the thousands of charities that accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC and other cryptocurrency donations.
