Mission Statement
RJOY’s mission is to interrupt cycles of violence, incarceration, and wasted lives, by promoting a cultural shift from punitive responses to wrongdoing that increase harm to restorative approaches that heal it. We create consciousness shifts and systems change through education, training, direct services, advocacy, demonstration programs and movement-building. RJOY is a national thought leader in promoting the practice of restorative justice through a racial justice and cultural healing lens.

Donate to RJOY and support wholeness and racial healing…We seek to repair the historic and community harms caused by racialized oppression and class oppression that relegate low-income youth of color to futures defined by mass incarceration and failure in public education systems. We meet service recipients in culturally appropriate ways that reach them and set them on a path for success and transformation.
Our work is deeply centered in restorative justice and trauma healing practices and theories that arise from Africentric and indigenous roots. Disruption of the school-to-prison pipeline is an act of human rights preservation and a core commitment. Our interventions, programs and planned actions all have as their goal advancement of a human rights agenda. More specifically, we are focused on civil rights, racial healing, community dialogue and “restorganizing” (restorative justice community organizing). These methods meet justice involved and trauma exposed people where they are in culturally appropriate ways. We lead from our extensive experience developing RJ and trauma healing programs, and our recognized RJ leadership locally, nationally and internationally. Our programs have been shown to be effective, transformative, and evidenced based.
