Mission Statement
We get it. Just when life should be full of possibilities, cancer crashes into a young person’s world and shatters everything. Cancer ruins their dreams, makes them grow up too fast and weighs them down with stresses they’re not supposed to have.
Canteen is the game-changer. We help young people aged 12 – 25 cope with cancer, whether it be their own diagnosis, the diagnosis of a family member, or the loss of a loved one. Through Canteen, they learn to explore and deal with their feelings about cancer, connect with other young people in a similar situation, and if they’ve been diagnosed themselves, we also provide specialist, youth-specific treatment teams.

Canteen works by having young people at the center of everything we do. We were set up by a group of young cancer patients in 1985 and still have young people affected by cancer guiding the organisation at every level, with a majority of our board being made up of young people who are currently accessing Canteen services or have accessed our support in the past.
Combined with our incredible young people, our amazing supporters, and our life-changing services, we can make sure young people have the specialist and peer support they need to get through.
