Mission Statement
Alaska Wilderness League protects Alaska’s wild lands and waters by inspiring broad support for federal policy action. Our long term vision is that Alaska’s wild landscapes endure to support vibrant communities and abundant wildlife.
Why Donate to Alaska Wilderness League?
For more than three decades, Alaska Wilderness League has led the charge in the fights to preserve vast Alaska landscapes, securing protections for millions of acres of old‑growth forests in Southeast Alaska, staving off drilling in the Arctic Ocean, and putting in place new safeguards for biological hot spots in the Western Arctic.
Despite these success, major threats still loom. Today, Alaska Wilderness League continues to fight against oil and gas drilling across America’s Arctic, including working to restore protections for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and stop the harmful Willow project to the west of that landscape. Across the entire state, the League remains active in combating destructive mining, drilling, logging and other damaging industrialization by working both in-state and nationally to preserve some of the world’s last remaining truly wild places.
We walk the halls of Congress. We press our case with federal agencies and in the courtroom. We create strong, effective campaigns and we build diverse coalitions and partnerships to advance a pro‑conservation agenda in Alaska.
What’s at stake are not only these irreplaceable landscapes and the wildlife and people who depend on them, but our nation’s entire commitment to protecting public lands, safeguarding Indigenous rights and securing a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
