6 NFT Projects Bringing Creativity to Charitable Giving

by | Dec 27, 2023

Right now, there’s a global community of trailblazers who are redefining the basic ground rules of art-making, from how it’s created and sold to how it’s harnessed to support social impact. And it’s all happening on the blockchain.

Dozens of non-fungible token (aka “NFT”) creators are helping to lead the way forward for Crypto Philanthropy, a nonprofit fundraising movement that empowers crypto users to give back. Whether they’re giving BTC, ETH, or any other cryptocurrency, their donations are totalling millions of dollars in direct impact to charitable organizations that need it most.

Whether you’re a creator looking for inspiration or a fundraiser seeking ideas for your next charitable partnership, read on to discover six of these charitable NFT projects.

Get to Know Some of These Charitable NFT Projects

NFT creators have donated millions of dollars to charity. These examples below are only a sample of the amazing, generous NFT projects making an impact through charitable giving.

1. World of Women

World of Women is on a mission to build a more inclusive web3 through its collection and community. This ethos influenced the team, led by Yam Karkai, to give back with crypto philanthropy. After a string of initial donations, it teamed up with Code Green to expand and execute its ambitious charitable vision. To date, the project has donated more than $2 million in crypto to charitable causes.

2. Squiggles

Squiggles are one of the most immediately-recognizable NFT projects. Creator Erick Calderon (aka Snowfro) chose to leverage the project’s popularity to create a charity auction. The limited edition run of Squiggles sold out in just a few hours, with proceeds going towards the ALS Association to help fund a cure for this progressive neurodegenerative disease.

3. NodeMonkes

NodeMonkes is an exciting project in the emerging Bitcoin Ordinals space. It’s notable for being the first PFP NFT project to be minted 10,000 times. NodeMonkes has made multiple cryptocurrency donations in support of the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, in honor of Hal Finney, an early Bitcoin network contributor who received the first BTC transaction from creator Satoshi Nakamoto.

4. Bored Ape Yacht Club / Yuga Labs

Launched by creative studio Yuga Labs, Bored Ape Yacht Club collection is a blue-chip NFT project with an unmistakable (and often imitated) aesthetic. The project’s founders made a generous ETH donation to support a nonprofit that shares its love of apes: Orangutan Outreach. The transformational donation shows the crypto community’s generosity and passion for causes beyond the boundaries of the “Web3” world.

5. Woodies NFT

Woodies NFT is a collection of nearly 10,000 unique avatars created by UltraDAO. The collection’s storytelling and characters, environment focus, has attracted collectors around the world. Its creators donated ETH valued at roughly $225,000 to support Trees for the Future, a nonprofit that helps farmers around the world embrace sustainable land practices. In 2022, the project was recognized for its philanthropy, receiving NFT.NFC’s Best Environmental Initiative from an NFT Project award.

Thanks to the project’s popularity—collectors include Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Eva Longoria and Snoop Dogog—it has donated more than $560,000 in crypto donations to support children’s charities like Malala Fund and Save the Children.
