Mission Statement
Hearts & Homes for Refugees (HHR) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to resettling refugees and inspiring, educating and equipping everyday Americans and communities to do the same. We offer holistic refugee resettlement for meaningful impact. Community Sponsorship improves the long-term outcomes for refugees, transforms the lives of our new neighbors and enriches the lives of volunteers and community partners who offer their time and resources.
Since 2016, we have been building a growing network of neighbors, community organizations, and faith, student, and civic groups to create safe, inclusive communities. Now, with the launch of the Welcome Corps, we are expanding our efforts across the country, engaging more Americans to play an active role in welcoming refugees and empowering our new neighbors to rebuild their lives with hope, dignity, and support.
Why Donate to Hearts & Homes for Refugees?
In 2018, Hearts and Homes for Refugees (HHR) received a transformative cryptocurrency donation from the Pineapple Fund, an anonymous philanthropy project founded by a Bitcoin holder who donated over $55 million to charitable causes. This major crypto gift marked a pivotal moment for HHR, significantly advancing its mission of creating welcoming homes and communities for refugees.
HHR was one of the first community-driven nonprofits in the country to resettle refugees. We were also an early adopter of cryptocurrency. Both HHR and crypto represent innovative solutions to world problems and both, as we have seen, have the power to change the world. Just as cryptocurrency owners operate in groundbreaking spaces, HHR’s approach to community-sponsored refugee resettlement is also shifting paradigms. We were driven by the conviction that harnessing the energy and power of local communities could offer a meaningful solution to the global refugee crisis.
The Pineapple Fund’s generous donation enabled HHR to:
– Expand refugee resettlement efforts: More families could be placed in safe, supportive homes.
– Enhance community engagement: HHR built stronger partnerships with local organizations, increasing volunteer support and services.
– Empower advocacy efforts: The gift-supported initiatives to influence refugee-friendly policies at both local and national levels.
– Build capacity for future growth: The donation strengthened HHR’s infrastructure, enabling it to scale its impact and prepare for national initiatives like the Welcome Corps.
With these expanded resources, HHR’s support goes beyond the basics of food and shelter during the critical first 12 months for resettling families. We provide assistance in learning English, securing a first job, navigating the healthcare system, accessing mental health care, cultural orientation, and building community connections. Essentially, we become the family and support network these new neighbors have left behind.
Today, HHR continues to rely on innovative forms of philanthropy, including cryptocurrency donations, to support its mission. With a goal of raising $250,000 in crypto donations by 2025, HHR invites crypto donors to follow in the footsteps of the Pineapple Fund and support this life-changing work for refugees. These donations directly contribute to expanding our volunteer network and increasing our capacity to say “Yes” to resettling more refugees, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and support.
