Streetlights
Mission Statement
Streetlights’ mission is to advocate for social and economic equality by providing viable career pathways for under served young adults who may not have a solid education base or stable work history. In particular, the organization will deliver job training, job placement and career advancement services to young adults with socioeconomic barriers leading to well-paying careers behind-the-camera in Commercials, Television, Film and Streaming Media.
Why Donate to Streetlights?
When they come to Streetlights, 100% of the participants are severely low income or at poverty level and many have significant barriers to traditional employment—with little hope of gaining economic stability. Applicants are selected from all of Los Angeles County, particularly where there are large numbers of chronically underemployed and underserved populations.
Socioeconomic factors attributed to our participants include:
• 74% are from single parent homes
• 50% unemployed at acceptance
• 33% long-term unemployment
• 33% receiving Public Assistance
• 24% personal or family incarceration
• 12% have experienced homelessness
• 14% have dependent children
• 30% have been exposed to gangs
• 9% have spent time in the foster care system
Streetlights provides vocational skills, life skills and career development training, creating pathways into life-sustaining careers for those with the least opportunity and the greatest need. We level the opportunity playing field by allowing participants the same chance to build careers afforded to those from better economic or social circumstances.
Our graduates can buy health insurance, purchase homes, and provide for their children. The professional education and practical experience provided by Streetlights allow participants to achieve long-term economic growth and social parity for themselves and their families.
