In recent days, the crypto community has rallied to help provide humanitarian relief and other forms of aid to Ukraine via charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations, DAOs and more. TIME Magazine reported that millions of dollars worth of crypto has been donated so far. Crypto whales aren’t the only ones pledging to get involved. Ordinary hodlers can make, and are already making, valuable contributions with their crypto.

The Giving Block recently launched the Ukraine Emergency Response Fund to support organizations providing urgent medical care and humanitarian aid to children, individuals and families in Ukraine.

What Kind of Help is Needed in Ukraine?
The people of Ukraine are in need of a variety of resources. Nonprofits are rising up to meet the needs by mobilizing to provide crisis relief, humanitarian aid, medical care, refugee services and much more. Here are a few of the most pressing resources needed in Ukraine:

Many nonprofits are actively ramping up to help in Ukraine. Their ability to do so is largely due to generosity of their supporters, who give what they can to support these efforts.
Are Crypto Donations to Help Ukraine Tax Deductible?
As word spreads about the need to help in Ukraine, many people have asked if donating to Ukraine relief efforts was tax-deductible. While this shouldn’t be the sole determining factor on whether or not you contribute, the answer depends on where you pay taxes and which organization you give to. According to the IRS, deductions related to cryptocurrency donations apply to US taxpayers only when they donate to registered US nonprofits and charities.
Donations made to the charities participating in The Giving Block’s Ukraine Emergency Response Fund, or to the fund itself, are considered tax-deductible for US taxpayers. Committed to helping those in need of housing and other essential resources, Opulent Philanthropy, Inc. is providing shelter, food and water to support those fleeing Ukraine.
17. International Fund for Animal Welfare
Dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of animals, the International Fund for Animal Welfare is rushing emergency aid to animal shelters in Ukraine.
18. Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG)
Lawyers for Good Government has mobilized an immediate response to help provide Temporary Protected Status pro bono for Ukrainian refugees.
19. Alight
Established to help provide housing and essential resources to refugees, trafficked persons, and economic migrants, Alight has committed to assisting those displaced from Ukraine.
20. ActionAid USA
ActionAid is working with local partners in Poland, Romania, Hungary, and Moldova to ensure that the needs of all people escaping conflict in Ukraine are met and that they receive equal support and protection.
21. Good360
Working with its network of US-based and international partners, Good360 is working to source goods such as personal care items, including hygiene items and amenity kits, and bottled drinks, and provide them to those in Ukraine in need of these essentials.
22. FOUR PAWS
A global animal welfare organization, FOUR PAWS is taking in animals from its partner organization in Kyiv region. It is also currently helping care for Ukrainian refugees fleeing with pets.
23. Catholic Relief Services
In response to the situation in Ukraine, Catholic Relief Services is working with partners in Poland, Moldova, Romania and Poland to provide assistance to arriving Ukrainians at multiple border crossing points, providing accommodation, food, counseling services and more.
24. All Hands and Hearts
Focused on responding in communities impacted by natural disasters, All Hands and Hearts has urgently deployed a team to Poland to support people at risk due to fleeing Ukraine, placing the utmost importance on managing the duty of care, migration process, and wellbeing of unaccompanied minors.
25. Habitat for Humanity Australia
With the goal to provide safe shelter for Ukrainian refugees, Habitat for Humanity has teams already working with first responders at the border in Romania and Hungary and is coordinating with partners on an appropriate response in Poland and Slovakia.

Hearts and Homes for Refugees is preparing to use its community-supported resettlement experience to provide a comprehensive approach to help Ukrainian refugees rebuild their lives with support for housing, community orientation, tutoring, job readiness, and more.
27. International Crisis Group
International Crisis Group reports on the conflict, assesses its human costs, gauges the larger threats to Ukrainian and European security, and encourages actions that can bring fighting to an end. Its advocacy, written products and visual explainer describe the conflict’s evolving dynamics and identify ways to facilitate prospects for peace.
28. Women for Women International
Working with its Bosnian partner Žene za Žene International, Women for Women International is seeking additional partners to provide crucial women-centered services that are often overlooked in humanitarian aid during war and conflict, like dedicated, safer spaces for women to gather and trauma-informed care and psychosocial support.
29. Lutheran World Relief
Lutheran World Relief is committing $3 million to respond to this crisis and are on the ground working with partners in and around Ukraine to rapidly develop programming plans based on short- and long-term needs. As part of this response, they are providing emergency funds to Ukrainian refugee families in Poland, air-lifting personal care kits, and more.
30. Forgotten Animals
Forgotten Animals is operational in Ukraine and helping shelters and volunteers feed and treat domestic and wild animals, including those left behind as people flee from their homes due to the ongoing crisis.
