Why Donate to Adult Congenital Heart Association?

Congenital heart defects are the most common type of birth defect in the United States, with approximately 1 in 100 births affected each year. Today, most children receive congenital heart defect treatment and live to adulthood. The frequency of heart defects is under appreciated, and there is even less understanding of the growing relevance and importance of adult survivors with congenital heart disease. Today, an estimated 2.5 million people are affected by congenital heart disease in the United States, with nearly 2 million being adults.

Every baby born with a heart defect should have the opportunity to thrive throughout their lifespan, not just to age 18. The Adult Congenital Heart Association’s (ACHA) vision is that every adult with congenital heart disease receives specialized cardiac care.

ACHA is the only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to serving the growing number of adults with congenital heart disease and the specialty medical providers who care for them. We raise awareness of the lifelong needs of the congenital heart disease population and the appropriate care necessary to improve patient outcomes; educate, support, and empower adults with congenital heart disease and their families; educate parents of children with congenital heart disease; and engage and educate medical providers in the latest in adult congenital heart disease care. We do this through a wide range of programs, services and activities. These include our National and Regional Conferences; accreditation program; educational resources; awareness, outreach and legislative advocacy efforts; and research program.
