Why Donate to Daring Girls?

We support mentoring programs for girls in Kenya (as of 2023) and Tanzania (since 2010). In Tanzania, where our mentoring programs originated, only 39 percent of girls are lucky enough to attend school. Those who do face significant financial, cultural, and environmental challenges that can undermine their ability to make the most of their secondary school opportunity, resulting too often in dropout. Options in life become extremely limited for a girl without an education.

But education is one piece of the equation. To succeed in an environment where odds are against her, a girl needs more. She needs education, but she also needs a role model that she can trust, who can show her her worth – and her potential. That's where our mentors come in. University-educated female mentors play a role in a girl’s life that nobody else can, creating a safe, consistent space for girls to ask questions they cannot ask of anyone else. This bond, coupled with the soft skills training girls receive through program curriculum, builds the confidence and resilience a girl needs to succeed in her education and in choosing the lives they want for themselves.
