Global Liberty Alliance

Mission Statement

The Global Liberty Alliance (GLA) is a U.S. 501(c)(3) that defends people whose fundamental rights have been violated by the state. Those rights include the freedom to worship, speak, move, contract, and own property, and the freedom from arbitrary or wrongful detention. Our American attorneys work alongside local lawyers and civil society leaders in countries where the rule of law is weak or absent, defending clients in local courts and, when needed, before international bodies.

We believe lasting justice starts locally. So we work with local counsel to pursue domestic remedies first, and we go to bodies like the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights or the United Nations only when those remedies are exhausted. GLA is rooted in the natural-law tradition and Catholic Social Teaching, which hold that every person's dignity and freedom come from God, not the state.  We work with people from all faith traditions, and strive to take cases with unique connections to the United States.
