Why Donate to Habitat for Humanity Maui?
Here is a letter from Shannon, a Habitat Maui partner family member, who – after a lot of hard work – moved into her new Habitat home this year. Please consider donating cryptocurrency to support Habitat Maui helping local low-income individuals and families like Shannon’s:
Aloha kākou friends,
In February 2021, my dream of homeownership became a reality with the help of Habitat Maui, my family and friends, donors, volunteers, and fellow community members. This is a dream I never thought was possible due to the high prices for a home on Maui.
When I look at our home, I see more than four walls, a roof, and a foundation. I see a place where my family and I will create memories that will live in our na’au (heart) forever. I see a place that my family and I worked so hard to build together where we can seek peace and serenity. I see a place that will provide my keiki (children) the stability to help them grow and excel in life. I see a place that has changed our lives forever, and for that I am grateful.
Unfortunately, this reality is still a dream for many other families. The median price for a home on Maui reached a historic high in 2021, continuing to make homeownership impossible for lower-income families. Safe, stable, and affordable housing is needed now more than ever.
Habitat Maui has built and renovated over 150 homes, helping over 500 people in our local community. They create pathways to homeownership for families like us. This could not be done without the help and support of others. By supporting Habitat Maui and their mission to build decent housing and to renovate substandard housing on Maui, you will be helping many other families like many have helped us. I strongly believe in their vision in which every person has a decent place to live and I encourage you to be a part of that.
Ike aku, ike mai, kokua aku, kokua mai; pela iho la ka nohana ‘ohana. Recognize others, be recognized, help others, be helped; such is a family relationship.
