Mission Statement
In many areas of the country, especially in the South, the situation for animals is desperate: Chained outside and starving, homeless and running loose, or just simply no longer wanted and abandoned in an overburdened and underfunded facility that can’t possibly take another. For these animals, there is not much hope…except to look in the night sky for the North Star, their only way out.
We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to saving these innocent dogs and finding them a new forever home.We are 100% dedicated to operating in a safe, transparent, and ethical manner, and to ensuring the best veterinary practices are followed with regards to the care and transport of our animals. NorthStar Pet Rescue is a IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 81-5348036).
Why Donate to NorthStar Pet Rescue?
The worldwide COVID emergency has taken a toll on all nonprofits, but especially so for animal rescues. Like many rescue organizations, NorthStar suspended fundraising activities and events throughout the crisis. The story of COVID is still being told, but for companion animals it has been both a blessing and a curse. Many families, newly unemployed, have had to surrender or abandon their pets due to financial hardship. The pets we are seeing coming into shelters are in worse condition than before the pandemic because funds are not often available for their care. Simultaneously, in the Northeast, we have seen an explosion in demand for pets in the as work-from-home quarantined families look to our four legged friends for companionship and love. A little-known fact is that it costs rescue organizations like ours more to properly vet and transport a dog than we recoup in adoption fees. We are one of the few charities that lose more money the more we work. As a senior and special needs focused rescue, our costs to rescue a single senior dog are often multiple times the special senior reduced adoption fee. During challenging times like this we look for new fundraising avenues to explore. The explosion in cryptocurrency is an opportunity to connect with new donors anxious to do some good for animals in a world that often casts them aside.
