Mission Statement
The mission of the Rainforest Foundation is to support Indigenous and traditional peoples of the world’s rainforests in their efforts to protect their environment and uphold their rights by assisting them in:
-Securing and controlling the natural resources necessary for their long term well being and managing these resources in ways which do not harm their environment, violate their culture or compromise their future; and​
-Developing the means to protect their individual and collective rights and to obtain, shape and control basic services from the state.Â

Deforestation is the second leading cause of carbon emissions and a major contributor to climate change. When forests are cut we lose more than trees. We lose the ability to absorb and store carbon from the atmosphere, wildlife habitat, the freshwater cycling and rain patterns generated by the forests, and we lose entire cultures, languages, and traditional knowledge. Indigenous peoples call these rainforests home and depend on them for their survival.
We have time to turn things around if we act now. There IS hope.
Rainforest Foundation US has proven solutions to protect the Amazon Rainforest and the rainforests of Central America. Science demonstrates that Indigenous peoples are the rainforests’ best defenders, and forests protected by them capture more carbon than even national parks. Rainforest Foundation US has partnered with Indigenous peoples for more than 35 years by providing technology, tools, training, and resources to protect their rights and their lands. Together, we can protect the rainforest, its peoples, and our planet.Â
