We have partnered with the teams at Gitcoin (previously we worked together on COVID-19 response), ConsenSys, Emerging Impact and others for the #CryptoforBlackLives grant campaign. Currently the campaign has a $25k match for donations made in cryptocurrency. We hope to increase the size of the match pool in the coming days as the cryptocurrency community comes together for this cause.
Participating nonprofits include:
- Black Girls Code (@BlackGirlsCode)
- Nashville Community Bail Fund (@NashBailFund)
- Movement 4 Black Lives (@Mvmnt4BlkLives )
- The Bail Project ( @bailproject )
- National Black Chamber of Commerce ( @NationalBCC)
- Justice Committee (@watchthecops )
- With more to come.
You can donate to these causes here. For more information, follow @CryptoForBLM and participate in the discussions to raise awareness using the hashtag #CryptoforBlackLives.
We are equipping these organizations with the tools to fundraise cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Ether, Zcash, Gemini Dollar. More to be added soon!
#CryptoForBlackLives Pledge
We have worked alongside Robert Greenfield, CEO of Emerging Impact to take part in the #CryptoForBlackLives Pledge.
Robert has created the #CryptoForBlackLives Pledge to motivate our community to stand in solidarity against police brutality and systemic racism.
We join leading blockchain organizations to take the pledge, including Althea, Gitcoin, cLabs (Celo), Sempo, Amentum and Storj – many of them led by people of color. The Giving Block has gone one step further and waived all monthly subscription fees for civil rights-related nonprofits as a part of the #CryptoForBlackLives campaign.
Find out more and take the pledge here.
What are other cryptocurrency companies doing?
The Giving Block proudly uses Gemini for our backend exchange services and stands by the recent announcements made by their co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss this week:
- Black Lives Matter.
- Black lives have been disproportionately impacted by systemic racism and injustice in America.
- Speaking out against anti-blackness is not a political issue — it’s a humanitarian one.
- It’s time to reform systems that discriminate against Black lives.
- We stand with the Black community today and forever.
Gemini also announced financial support and matching grants for social justice:
“Gemini is committed to providing direct economic support to organizations focused on education, economic, and social justice reform for the Black community. To that end, Gemini will be donating $250K to organizations recommended by, voted on, and chosen by our employees.”
You can learn more about Gemini’s initiatives here.
The Giving Block’s Support for Civil Rights Organizations
To demonstrate The Giving Block’s commitment to fighting for and protecting civil rights, we will be onboarding up to 10 causes with none of our usual subscription fees during our #CryptoForBlackLives campaign.
We feel that one of the best ways we can help is by giving these organizations a financial boost.
We understand that we still have much to learn, and we are here to listen, and help when and where we can. To find out more, and how your organization can take part in these initiatives, whether as a donor, sponsor or nonprofit fundraiser, contact us today.
