Rainforest Foundation Uses Crypto to Help Save the Brazilian Amazon

Rainforest Foundation US is a New York-based, nonprofit NGO working in Central and South America, which is now hoping to support anti-deforestation efforts with crypto and blockchain tech.

Since January of 2019, deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon has increased by 75%, while forest fires have doubled in number. Rainforest Foundation US, a non-profit NGO and self-proclaimed “guardians of our rainforests, its animals and its people”, has called upon the cryptocurrency community to support anti-forest fire and anti-deforestation efforts in the Brazilian Amazon.

To combat this devastation, the Rainforest Foundation has teamed up with The Giving Block to assemble a #CryptoFireFighter coalition of cryptocurrency sponsors, donors, and media partners.

Deforestation and fires in the Brazilian Amazon

On Sept. 4, the Rainforest Foundation reached out to the crypto and blockchain community to ask for their support to fight against deforestation and forest fires in Brazil.

The post on the foundation’s website states:

“We have long-known that the crypto community has the power to change the world. We hope you will help us do just that by joining our #CryptoFireFighter coalition.”

The Rainforest Foundation is accepting cryptocurrency donations in Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and other cryptocurrencies.
