$157,000 Raised For COVID Relief During New York Blockchain Week

CoinDesk, Gitcoin, Ethereal Summit and The Giving Block Partner For COVID Relief

In May, CoinDesk reached out with the idea to integrate giving into their annual New York Blockchain Week events. With our partners Gitcoin, Ethereal Summit, and CoinDesk, we passed the initial goal of $100,000 plus $50,000 in match funds for a total of $157,000 raised. As you can imagine, the majority of these funds raised were donated in cryptocurrency.

Of the 10 nonprofits, 6 nonprofits accepted crypto donations with The Giving Block and raised approximately $134,000 while the 4 nonprofits accepting only credit cards raised the remaining $23,000.

Who Accepted Crypto?

  • International Medical Corps
  • No Kid Hungry
  • Save the Children
  • Team Rubicon
  • SOS Children’s Villages
  • The Water Project

Who Didn’t Accept Crypto?

  • Meals on Wheels
  • Doctors Without Borders
  • Action Against Hunger
  • Operation Masks

We hope this sets the stage to make giving a central part of blockchain events around the world. You can view the CoinDesk fundraising page here and read more about the fundraiser here.
