The Giving Block Announces Partnership to Enable BBB Wise Giving Alliance Accredited Charities to Receive Cryptocurrency Donations

Today we are thrilled to announce a new partnership between BBB Wise Giving Alliance and The Giving Block. This partnership will allow donations of cryptocurrency to be processed for any charity that is accredited by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance.

“We’re incredibly proud to be partnering with an industry leader in protecting donors and charitable organizations,” said The Giving Block’s co-founder Alex Wilson. “With public trust in the nonprofit sector at historic lows, it’s important now more than ever to make sure that nonprofits have clear guidance from their partners on fundraising wisely and effectively.”

GiveSafely.io Integration

A key pillar of this partnership is an upcoming integration with GiveSafely.io, BBB Wise Giving Alliance’s donation and engagement platform for donors and BBB WGA Accredited Charities. Charities who choose to take advantage of this integration will be able to accept 50+ cryptocurrencies as charitable donations powered by The Giving Block.

On GiveSafely, donors are required to give a name and email address, but they maintain control over whether or not to share the rest of their personal information. Thanks to the platform’s decentralized structure, data and donations go to the intended charities without any contact from GiveSafely. Each additional piece of data shared (phone number, gender, age, etc.) earns the donor an additional GivingPoint which can be redeemed for rewards. Examples of current rewards offered include virtual experiences with charities, NFTs, and a guided tour of a wildlife sanctuary.

This is in close alignment with The Giving Block’s mission to improve the accommodation of donor privacy in the charitable giving space. The Giving Block’s co-founder, Pat Duffy, recently authored a CoinDesk OpEd in which he said, “Though I understand the motivation of nonprofits who mandate donor information, I hope we continue to move toward the normalization of donor privacy. Though data collection is helpful in reducing a charity’s fundraising expenses, nonprofits are creating unnecessary friction by forcing everyone to do so, and boxing out a lot of good human beings who deserve the right to support a great cause without sacrificing their right to privacy.”

Podcast Episode on the Crypto Donation Channel

To talk more about this partnership and the importance of trust in the charitable giving sector, The Giving Block’s Pat Duffy will join Art Taylor, CEO of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, on The Heart of Giving Podcast which will go live on December 21st. Please consider listening in as these champions of philanthropy talk about the future of fundraising, donor motivations, and more! You can find the episode here, or anywhere you listen to podcasts.
