The Giving Block Adds Support for More Cryptocurrency Donations

The Giving Block is excited to announce that we’re adding support for more cryptocurrencies in our Donation Form and fundraising platform. This week, we have added support for Spell Token (SPELL), Magic Internet Money (MIM), Render Token (RNDR), Gala (GALA), Merit Circle (MC), Ethereum Name Service (ENS), Keep3r (KP3R), Dogelon Mars (ELON) and Civic (CVC). These tokens join a growing list of cryptocurrencies that nonprofits can accept with the fundraising tools and services powered by The Giving Block.

SPELL is an ERC-20 token used as a governance and incentive token within the Abracadabra.money ecosystem. The SPELL token’s primary use cases are (1) governance in the Abracadabra protocol and (2) fees earned from the protocol. Abracadabra uses interest-bearing tokens like CRV, CVX and YFI as collateral to mint Magic Internet Money (MIM), a USD-pegged stablecoin. The maximum supply of SPELL is 210,000,000,000, which are distributed for global farming incentives, team allocation, and during the initial DEX offering.

Magic Internet Money (MIM)

MIM is a stablecoin that is soft-pegged to the US Dollar and minted by the Abracadabra.money decentralized lending platform. Abracadabra uses interest-bearing crypto assets as collateral to mint MIM, which can be swapped for other stablecoins. Loan liquidations on Abracadabra differ from other stablecoin/lending protocols, in that each collateralized debt position (CDP) is unique and has its own liquidation price. When the liquidation price for an individual CDP is crossed, a liquidator can buy the position by paying off any outstanding MIM.

Render Token (RNDR)

RNDR is an ERC-20 token which serves as the utility token used to pay for animation, motion graphics, and VFX rendering on the Render Network. The Render Network is a provider of decentralized GPU-based rendering solutions. The project consists of three major components working in conjunction: (a) creators, (b) node operators, and (c) OctaneRender. Using the Render Network, creators can tap into GPU power to render final images at higher speeds and lower costs than previously available. Node operators rent out their spare GPU to creators and receive RNDR tokens for time spent rendering.

Gala (GALA)

GALA is an ERC-20 utility token used in the Gala Games ecosystem, an Ethereum-based gaming platform. GALA can be used as the medium of exchange between participants in the ecosystem and to purchase digital assets, including NFTs. The project aims to create an environment where gamers retain full ownership of their in-game items, in contrast to the current centralized system where players lose their in-game items when banned or when platforms shut down. NFTs used in-game exist on the Ethereum network and are entirely separate from Gala Games.

Merit Circle (MC)

MC is the governance token for Merit Circle, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) focused on maximizing yield across play-to-earn games and the metaverse. The project aims to develop opportunities to earn MC through play-and-earn platforms for people who want to help build the metaverse. The ecosystem is made up of gamers, community managers, and DAO contributors. Merit Circle was initially known as Axie 420, a scholarship program for the blockchain-based Axie Infinity game. With the rebrand, the DAO is focused on expanding beyond Axie Infinity into other crypto games. Decision making on Merit Circle is undertaken through voting by MC token holders.

Ethereum Name Service (ENS)

ENS is an ERC-20 utility token associated with the Ethereum Name Service, a decentralized naming system built on the Ethereum network. The ENS token was issued via an airdrop to all ENS domain holders, ENS contributors, and the ENS DAO community treasury. The ENS token will be used for governance of the ENS protocol and community treasury at launch. ENS domains are issued as NFTs, which are meant to be human-readable addresses that map to public keys on networks like Ethereum, Bitcoin, and others. Other metadata can be stored within an ENS domain such as traditional DNS domains, Twitter profiles, IPFS hashes, and more.

Keep3r (KP3R)

KP3R is an ERC-20 utility token native to the Keep3r Network, a decentralized registry designed to match organizations and other entities with technical professionals known as “Keepers.” A Keeper refers to a person, bot, and/or team that executes a usually autonomous task. To become a Keeper and receive KP3R rewards from completing jobs, a Keeper needs to “bond” with a job. If a bonded Keeper is selected for a job, they will receive KP3R rewards once the job has been successfully completed.

Dogelon Mars (ELON)

ELON (aka Dogelon Mars) is a doge-themed token project that aims to replicate the success of Dogecoin (DOGE) while referencing Elon Musk’s vision to colonize Mars. The founders of Dogelon Mars locked 50% of all the ELON liquidity in a Uniswap liquidity pool. The other half was donated to Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, who then sent the donated ELON to various DAOs and foundations. Current token holders have either purchased the asset on a decentralized exchange (DEX) or received them as a donation from Vitalik Buterin. The coin has a max supply of 1 quadrillion (1,000,000,000,000,000).

CVC is an ERC-20 token used on Civic, a decentralized digital identity provider. The primary use case of CVC is as a payment verification between “Identity Verifiers” and “Identity Requesters” within the Civic ecosystem. Requesters can be anyone who wants to link KYC/KYB data to crypto wallets. Identity Verifiers are then paid in CVC by Identity Requesters, and the Civic team takes fees for connecting the parties. Additionally, users verifying their information through Civic can share their info and the verification with service providers, which reduces the need to re-verify their identity.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) is an ERC-20 token with a total supply of one quadrillion. Shiba is a token that aspires to be an Ethereum-based alternative to Dogecoin (DOGE), the popular memecoin. Axis are bred at an initial cost of 100 SLP, and can be bred several times at increasing price points. Users can earn SLP by completing in-game certain adventures and winning battles. Terra (LUNA)

LUNA is a native token of the Terra blockchain. It is used to maintain a stable price of the protocol’s multiple stablecoins, including those pegged to the Mongolian tugrik, U.S. dollar, and South Korean won. For example, when there is an increase in demand for TerraUSD (UST), thus driving up the price, holders can burn their LUNA tokens to create new UST, stabilizing the market price of UST while also making a small profit for themselves. LUNA is also used as a governance token for Terra.

Holders of its other token, MKR–which is not pegged to any fiat currency, and is expected to increase in value based on the success of DAI–can vote on MakerDAO’s operating protocols and governance proposals. As of July 2020, MakerDAO has become “fully decentralized,” according to co-founder Rune Christensen.

Pax Gold is a stablecoin created by Paxos Standard that is backed by physical gold. Each PAXG token is backed by one fine troy ounce of a 400 oz London Good Delivery gold bar, which are stored in Brink’s vaults. Holders of PAXG also own the underlying gold and can easily redeem tokens for their equivalent in physical gold. Owning digital gold has the advantages of cryptocurrency (e.g. fungibility, tradability) without the drawbacks associated with ownership of a physical asset (e.g. storage costs, limited transportability). For example, unlike with traditional gold exchanges, PAXG allows users to buy and sell partial or infinitesimally small amounts of gold.

Ren is a software protocol that is built to transfer cryptocurrencies between different blockchains. Ren utilizes a process known as “tokenized representation,” in which users lock their digital assets in smart contracts to effectively allow for these assets to function across the DeFi ecosystem, not just in their native environments. For example, users could place their bitcoins in the Ren system and in return receive ether to use on the Ethereum blockchain, including a number of DeFi products. Ren’s native token, REN, is traded on several exchanges  and is earned by operators that help maintain the Ren network.

Its native token is SNX, which is used to pay out fees to holders who contribute to the network.

Yearn.Finance is intended to be a simple-to-use interface for users who wish to access the decentralized finance ecosystem. By offering a suite of products, Yearn.Finance functions as a portal to its own native liquidity pools as well as those on other decentralized exchanges. Yearn.Finance users earn interest on trades and loans of crypto they have deposited on its protocols. Founder Andre Cronje was seen as a true champion of decentralization because he did not allocate any of Yearn.Finance’s token, YFI, to himself.

Aave (AAVE)

Aave is an open-source, decentralized finance protocol that allows users to borrow cryptocurrencies or deposit them and earn passive income through interest. Aave’s operations rely on smart contracts that enable users to borrow from a “liquidity pool,” which is essentially made up of crypto that has been deposited into Aave by its users. In other words, Aave borrowers do not get loans from specific financial institutions or directly from individuals. Borrowers pay interest on their loan, while lenders receive interest on their deposits. Its native coin, AAVE Tokens, can be stored, transferred, and traded on several crypto exchanges.

Compound enables users to borrow cryptocurrency or earn interest on crypto they already hold. Compound is one of the most popular Ethereum-based dApps and Compound Labs, its developer, was backed by venture capital investment firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). When users deposit crypto, they receive cTokens in return which can increase in value over time and are redeemable for the original tokens deposited by users. Its governance coin, COMP, can be purchased via most third-party exchanges, and any COMP holder can propose changes to Compound’s protocol—true to the spirit of decentralization.

Curve is a decentralized exchange that exclusively deals with stablecoins. Because centralized exchanges tend to have relatively high fees, Curve.fi is seen as a solution that offers “low fees and low slippage.” Curve has set itself apart from other exchanges through its specialization in stablecoins, which are experiencing renewed interest as of late. The governance token of Curve’s decentralized autonomous organization, CRV, can be purchased on an exchange or through “yield farming,” a practice by which users earn rewards in exchange for depositing into the Curve liquidity pool.

Founded in 2020, SushiSwap is an exchange originally based on Uniswap’s open-source code. The exchange aims to provide users access to newer cryptocurrencies that aren’t readily available on larger exchanges, while empowering its users to play an increasingly critical role in its governance. SushiSwap’s token, SUSHI, is freely tradable on exchanges. Its holders receive portions of the exchange’s transaction fees and can propose changes to SushiSwap’s operations.

Uniswap is one of the most popular decentralized crypto trading protocols built for the Ethereum network. Its open-source AMM (automated market maker) software has inspired several offshoot exchange platforms in the DeFi space. UNI, its governance token, can be bought and sold at most major exchanges. Currency, 60% of UNI is allocated to Uniswap community members. Uniswap was created by Hayden Adams, an Ethereum developer.
