Allegheny Land Trust
Mission Statement
Allegheny Land Trust is a Western Pennsylvania non-profit organization with the mission of conserving and caring for local land for the health and well-being of current and future generations.
We envision a resilient region with abundant green space that is easily accessible and recognized as essential to the quality of life for all, and have protected more than 3,400 acres of woodlands and farmlands in the Pittsburgh Region since our founding in 1993.
Our conserved lands preserve natural beauty, provide enhanced outdoor recreational opportunities, protect and improve water and air quality, sustain biodiversity, remediate past environmental abuses, and contribute to the overall health and wellness of our region’s communities and their residents.
Why Donate to Allegheny Land Trust?
Allegheny Land Trust has conserved thousands of acres of green space in dozens of Western Pennsylvania communities–preserving the region’s natural beauty, providing greatly expanded opportunities for a wide variety of outdoor recreational pursuits, protecting and improving water and air quality, sustaining biodiversity, and enhancing the overall quality of life in the Pittsburgh region.
Our conservation areas are located in urban, suburban, and rural communities across the region, and range in size from less than one acre to more than 450 acres. They provide expanded and equal access to the natural world to a population of users as diverse as the region itself.
We hold ourselves to the highest standard of land stewardship to sustainably and sensitively care for our protected lands once acquired enabling them to achieve their full environmental and community benefit today and in perpetuity.
Our land conservation mission has taken on a heightened sense of urgency in recent years as the region’s woodlands and farms continue to be consumed at an alarming and unsustainable rate despite low population growth. This consumption of green space is contributing to a host of persistent issues including flooding, landslides, poor air and water quality, food insecurity and others. While the consumption of green space exacerbates these issues, ample and strategically conserved greenspace helps to mitigate them.
We have conserved 520 additional acres in 2021, and currently have another 485 acres under contract to conserve in the coming 12 months if we are able to raise the necessary funding to do so. Please help us “help local people save local land” by donating today. Thank you.
