Lucky Duck Foundation

Mission Statement

To alleviate the suffering of homelessness throughout San Diego County.

Why Donate to Lucky Duck Foundation?

The Lucky Duck Foundation funds, activates and leads high-impact homelessness programs throughout San Diego County and our co-founders match all donations up to $1.5 million per year.

When Lucky Duck Foundation (LDF) co-founders Pat and Stephanie Kilkenny noticed a growing and urgent need for programs and services to alleviate the suffering of San Diegans experiencing homelessness, Padres owner Peter Seidler and business leader Dan Shea were simultaneously calling upon business and civic leaders, community members, politicians, and other key stakeholders to join them in taking action to address the issue in a best-in-class, fact-based manner.

After closely studying homelessness and collaborating with Peter & Dan, Pat & Stephanie knew LDF could have an even greater impact if they focused the Foundation’s efforts squarely on homelessness. They decided to do so, and shortly after pivoting, LDF purchased several large industrial tent structures to function as bridge shelters which sleep more than 650 individuals. And ever since, LDF has funded and activated several high-impact programs that alleviate the suffering of homelessness. Such programs include employment and job training;community trash clean-up;actionable research across San Diego’s

institutions of higher learning; permanent supportive housing; food rescue; meals and water;LDF’s Community Care Kit program; and more.

Equally as important as these programs is the mobilization of leadership. LDF’s highly engaged Board of Directors, plus the Tuesday Group, have been integral in leading the way and advocating on behalf of San Diego’s homeless community. With their urging, the city opened and expanded Golden Hall as a temporary shelter, and later, opened the San Diego Convention Center as a shelter during the COVID-19 crisis.

LDF’s history is deeply rooted in the San Diego community. For over 15 years, Pat and Stephanie Kilkenny have donated their time, knowledge, and “Share Your Luck” motto with many charitable causes throughout San Diego. And every year they generously match all donations up to $1.5 million.

The premise is simple: if you have had some good luck and fortune in your life and have an interest in joining a community of like-minded people committed to giving thanks by giving back, please join our efforts and subscribe and donate.
