Lutheran Social Services of Illinois

Mission Statement

Responding to the Gospel, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) brings healing, justice, and wholeness to people and communities.

Why Donate to Lutheran Social Services of Illinois?

“Success is measured not by what you have but the people that you help along the way.” Eve, LSSI Foster Parent

Since LSSI’s founding in 1867, generations of caring people have supported our mission and helped children, adults, and seniors across Illinois reach their full potential. What started as an orphanage to help children whose parents died in a cholera epidemic has grown to one of the largest statewide social service providers.

LSSI provides critical social and human services for Illinois residents, including foster care, mental health services, alcohol and drug treatment, affordable senior housing, home care services for older adults, residential programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and programs that help people and families impacted by incarceration. LSSI strives to bring dignity, health, and well-being, and the promise of reaching one’s full potential to the more than 62,000 children, adults, and seniors we serve annually.
