Mission Statement
Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP)’s mission is to protect civilians in violent conflicts through unarmed strategies, build peace side by side with local communities, and advocate for the wider adoption of these approaches to safeguard human lives and dignity. NP envisions a worldwide culture of peace in which conflicts within and between communities and countries are managed through nonviolent means.

The status quo of military intervention is so ingrained in us that many cannot imagine an effective nonviolent response to conflict. But unarmed strategies to protect civilians and prevent violence are not mere idealism, they are tested and proven.

• In Ukraine, families are accompanied to safety and by working with volunteer collectives we have been able to protect 227,000 civilians along 40% of the frontline.
• In the U.S., in the wake of conflict in the Middle East, hate violence targeting Muslim, Arab, Sikh, South Asian, Palestinian, and Jewish communities has surged. In response, NP is working with our partner the American Asian Federation to accompany groups at risk for hate crimes at actions and trains community organizations on self-protection through unarmed methods.
• In Sudan, NP has been able to train 630+ civilians in psychological first aid and has facilitated the formation of Women Protection Teams who intervene to stop community conflicts from turning violent in the ZamZam internally displaced person camp.
