Mission Statement
The Refuge for Women mission is to empower sexually exploited women to live a life of freedom through faith-based, residential healing programs. The hope is that every women who is sexually exploited would have the hope, support, and tools needed to pursue her dreams and live a life of freedom.
Why Donate to Refuge for Women, Inc.?
The average age of an individual first being trafficked is between 12 – 14 years old. Are you surprised by that? Our hearts ache with you for the women that are oppressed and enslaved in this multi-billion dollar industry. The women we serve have experienced sexual and physical violence, lethal threats to themselves and their families by their trafficker, have been isolated from their support networks, have substance abuse issues as a means of coping with the trauma in their life or induced by their trafficker, among many other things. Ninety-two percent of women served reported wanting to leave but couldn’t because they lacked the basic human services such as a home, job training, health care, counseling and treatment for drug or alcohol addiction. Our approach is to provide her with emergency housing for safety and stabilization, long-term housing to equip women with the tools, training, and support necessary to achieve and maintain a healthy, well-grounded life, and transitional living that promotes financial stability and healthy living. Our two-year continuum of care is designed to remove her from her oppressive situation, setting her free from the obstacles of her past, and giving her a future that is marked with dignity and hope.
