Founded in 1991, Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity helps and empowers seriously ill children and young people to lead a more marvellous life. One way we do this is through establishing Roald Dahl Specialist Nurses. Our nurses provide holistic family-centred care and become a vital lifeline for seriously ill children and young people as well as their families, improving the lives of some of the most disadvantaged people in greatest need. Currently, 82 Roald Dahl Nurses support over 24,000 seriously ill children and young people across the UK. The children and young people looked after by these nurses are all living with complex lifelong conditions that are underfunded, under-resourced and under-recognised. These conditions include progressive disease without curative treatment options, as well as irreversible but non-progressive conditions causing severe disability. Roald Dahl Nurses are highly trained, senior, compassionate professionals who are ‘more than a nurse’ and ‘make things happen’. The recently published ‘Marvellous Nurses’ Report, provides highlights from an independent evaluation recently undertaken by the Sheffield Hallam University, clearly evidences the impact and contribution of our nurses.
